Akee (Blighia Sapida)
This evergreen tree reaches 33 to 40 feet and usually has a short trunk (about 6 feet). The akee must be allowed to fully open before it is detached from the tree. The seeds are discarded and the arils, while still fresh and firm , are best parboiled in salted water or milk then lightly fried in butter.
